Collier Row
The royal hunting forest – 1300 acres within the Royal Liberty of Havering – was enjoyed by monarchs from before the Conquest.
Cromwell allowed neglect of this once luxurious residence in the 1650s and the trees were plundered for timber for the navy.
The end came when the palace remains were sold at public auction in 1828 to Hugh McIntosh. His fortune derived from excavating the East India and London Docks.
In 1938, the council bought part of this land to create the three parks: Havering Country Park, Bedford’s Park and Pergo Park.
